Fine Gaél poll numbers up - no cause for celebration!

Before anyone starts jumping for joy with the news that Fine Gaél's poll ratings are up at the expense of Fianna Fáil, even if they do get into power, it'll be a case of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.  Nothing will really change; you might have a change of style, but not substance.

I, like many other people am gravely concerned at the implications of the European Commission's proposals to fully liberalise the postal services sector in Europe, the so-called ‘Third Directive'.  I believe strongly in the citizen's right to have access to affordable and quality postal services as An Post currently provides as part of its Universal Service Obligation (USO).  Alas, all of this is under grave threat if this ‘Third Directive' in its current form, which is being championed by such free market, neo-liberal European Union (EU) Commissioner fanatics and ideolog

Traffic lights causing gridlock

The traffic lights at the Kilmore Road/Malahide Road Junction are causing serious gridlock on the Malahide Road especially inbound during the morning, when they cause traffic on the Malahide Road to become gridlocked way past the Artane Roundabout.  It often takes over a half hour to get from the Artane Roundabout to the Kilmore Road/Malahide Road Junction, a distance of just a few hundred yards.

Inflation rise to 5.2% a great concern

The news that the Consumer Price Index (CPI), (inflation by any other name!), rose by 5.2% last month easily wiping out the already small pay rises under the 'Towards 2016' agreement means that at the very least, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) must immediately renegotiate these ridiculously small pay rises ASAP.  The very least that I, and most other Workers are demanding is a special catch-up clause to give us some chance of actually seeing an improvement in our living standards.
